Using hot section strain gauge measurements is the standard method to monitor blade vibrations in the turbine area.
Technology gap
Research areas are the durability at high temperatures and high mechanical loads as well as the measurement accuracy.
Current Sens[[or Needs
PIWG has an extensive specification of this technology (http //piwg.org/sensor/sensor_hsdrsgage.html external link).
Priority and required grade of innovation
Due to the importance of this technology for gas turbine testing and certification the priority is high. There has been large efforts in the last decades so the innovation steps are relatively high for significant improvements.
